A yellow bar with 'to be announced' in 2010-2011, how vague can it get. It looks like they had to put something there, instead of blatantly omitting GW2.

I guess the point is that people don't have to still be playing GW1 when GW2 comes out (or more reasonably, when the beta starts) to be interested in the franchise. They merely need to have enjoyed playing it while they did. We don't expect people to continue playing non-mmos until their sequels arrive, and GW is barely an mmo.
I'd actually suspect that with MMOs, the players who are still playing the old game when the new game arrives are most likely to be annoyed that they're expected to move to a new game and lose their character.
And of course, people can stop playing, hear something about GW2, hop back in game to refresh their memory and hype themselves up that way.

I know what you mean. I'll be graduating from High School that year, and I think GWs won't be much of a priority.

The only thing that will keep my playing for another few years is more armour! Literally... i will play many odd things for a very long time so long as I get to play with customization.
I really hope that with a release date pushed that far back we do see some interesting developments for GW1. I don't want to stop playing. I do love this game, and I definitely need some more motivation.

Wow, this confirms that the past 2 years have been an absolute PR DISASTER for Arenanet. You don't announce a game in 2007 that you plan on shipping 4 years later, especially when it involves informing your players support for the current game will be cut down significantly...
How do they think they're going to keep people around that long? Seriously, their "quarterly updates" won't even do the trick. It's not enough.
Anet's PR team should be all resigning right now...this was a terrible decision.

Not happy with this at all. Another possible wait of 2 years with no new content for the GW fans. Brilliant job NcSoft. Way to care about your NA/EU players too.

My thoughts exactly. "to be announced" =/= "GW2 coming in 2010/2011"
Just be patient people. GW2 is no worse off in its development cycle then any other game. Its not like this is starcraft ghost or anything. And while people may be panicing, remember there are other things you can do in the meantime. Remember, the following games will probablly be released before GW2...
Mass Effect 2
Assassin's Creed 2
StarCraft 2
Star Trek Online
Aion (obviously)
Darkfall
So relax. You'll have plenty of things to do in the mean time.
Edit @poster 2 posts above me, the reason they announced GW2 so early is because they had to have an explination for why they were canceling GW: Utopia, the 4th chapter that was supposed to follow NF. If they didn't offer an explination and were just silent, we would all be complaining about "A.net promissed a new GW game every 6 months, wtf happened, this game is dead, etc." Better to keep us informed then to remain completely silent. The QQ would be even worse then.

well the time table of a beta in 2008 and release in 2009-2010 was just unrealistic imo. also the pushing back and the little info we have on gw 2 confirms this they are still in very early stages of production.

See this really upsets me Anet! How many different threads have been begging for even the smallest scrap of info? How many of us posters have asked for just a general idea? All the time we're told "oh, no, can't do that. It's all being kept hush-hush for a dramatic statement". Then, as if in afterthought, it's general release timeframe is casually thrown into a FREAKING quarterly report! Thanks Anet, for remembering who your fans are!

Because people wanting more content for Guild Wars wouldn't have bought it anyways...?

No GW2 in 2009 = pretty much expected.
But is this source even official and this sort of information certain, or it's more like GW2: not soon but we won't tell anything.
And people wanting new GW content would certainly buy it all if it was worth it - it was a bad move to leave the game to just slowly die before GW2 release.
edit: information is 100% official confirmed.

Check out Aion on utube..looks good! I have a Korean friend who has a friend that retains Korean citizenship and has played Aion. For those who want harder, this is it.
Whew, looks like I may start working on titles after all

Hm, I said I had played GW2, but I did not give any indication as to it's level of polish. I just said that development is continuing to progress.
Keep in mind that we still don't have an announced release date. :-)

Can't say I'm surprised that is was going to be released in 2010/2011.

Just wondering, but if it's at a somewhat playable state, why not show a screenshot or two? I mean GW2 was announced in 2007, and we really have nothing.

Believe me, I have asked them to reconsider it. It just doesn't make sense from an overall business perspective.
